Recipe // El Presidente

Although the official celebration of Repeal Day has come and gone, we’re raising a glass to the end of Prohibition all month long. Hailing from Cuba, El Presidente was the house cocktail at Club El Chico in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village in the 1920’s. Make it at home or order it from the bar at Mary Eddy’s all month long.

El Presidente

1 1/2oz Rum

3/4oz Dolin Vermouth de Chambery Dry

3/4oz Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao

1/4oz Housemade Grenadine*

Add all ingredients to mixing glass with fresh ice and stir. Strain into a chilled Coupe or Martini glass. Garnish with expressed orange peel.

*Housemade Grenadine:

1 cup Pomegranate juice

1 cup Granulated Sugar

4 Cinnamon Sticks

4 Star Anise Pods

Place all ingredients into saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain and bottle. Shelf life is one to two months.
