Recipe: the .357

In 2007, the U.S. Senate declared September “Bourbon Heritage Month”. The bill, passed by unanimous consent, reinforces the 1964 Act of Congress that declared bourbon “America’s Native Spirit” by celebrating the family heritage, tradition, and deep-rooted legacy that the bourbon industry contributes to the United States.

This year, we’re celebrating our Bluegrass roots with an array of events and specials that honor Kentucky Bourbon. Just for the month of September, we’re serving a special menu of hand-crafted bourbon cocktails. If you can’t make it in, you can celebrate by making one of our most popular bourbon cocktails, the .357, at home.

.357:
1 oz Knob Creek Single Barrel Bourbon
1 oz Averna Amaro
1/4 oz Giffard Banane du Bresil Banana Liqueur
1/4 Espresso Demerara Simple Syrup*
2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters

Add all ingredients to mixing glass, stir and strain into rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with an expressed orange peel.

*For the Espresso Demerara Simple Syrup, combine 2 cups Espresso with 4 cups Demerara Sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring regularly. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 10 minutes. Allow to chill and bottle.
